About Self-Rescue Lessons

Safe Swim provides private, one-on-one ISR Self-Rescue® lessons individualized to your child's age, development, abilities, and progress.

Lessons are short, focused, and consistent, allowing children to progressively build skills from one lesson to the next.

Lesson Schedule

10-Minute Private Lessons
4 Days Per Week | Tuesday–Friday
Same Lesson Time Each Day
Mornings Only
Approximately 5–7 Weeks

Most children complete their Self-Rescue skills in approximately 5–7 weeks. Because every child learns differently, the exact number of lessons needed may vary based on age, development, previous skills, and individual progress.

Lessons are held at:

Safe Swim – Deerfield/Riverwoods
2600 Lake Cook Rd
Riverwoods, IL 60015

What Will My Child Learn?

Your child's Self-Rescue skills are individualized based on their age, development, mobility, and readiness.

Younger Infants | Rollback-to-Float

Younger children generally work toward independently rolling onto their back, finding their float, resting, and breathing.

The goal is to develop a stable floating position that allows the child to breathe until help can reach them.

Older & Mobile Children | Swim-Float-Swim

Older, more mobile children generally work toward a Swim-Float-Swim sequence.

Children learn to swim independently, transition onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and then return to swimming. They can repeat this sequence as needed while working toward reaching safety.

Age ranges are general guidelines. Skills and progression are always individualized to the child in the water.

Individualized Instruction

No two children learn exactly the same way.

Some children are fearless. Some are cautious. Some have previous swim experience, while others are experiencing independent swimming for the first time.

As a Certified ISR Instructor and Aquatic Behavioral Specialist, I individualize instruction not only to the skill we're working on, but to the child learning it.

Throughout your session, I'll communicate with you about your child's progress, help you understand what we're working on, answer questions, and celebrate those little breakthroughs along the way.
